PERSONALITY

Neville started off meeker than he is now by far. The boy was teased, mocked, even thought to be a Squib by his own family. Growing up as he has gave him a sort of strength and dignity that isn't as obvious to those around him. When his friends say one thing and he thinks another, he'll let them know. Of course, if his friends have a brilliant idea, he'll support it above all else. It all still comes out a bit awkward with people he's known that may still be surprised by the brave face the dark times have given sweet little Nev. The sweet boy is and will always be there, but these just aren't times for it. Words like "quit" and "give up" aren't words he acknowledges. Even under the worst punishment, he'll stand back up and still hold on to his beliefs. Fighting makes him enthused, being beaten down will not stop him. Neville might not be The-Boy-Who-Lived, but let it never be said that he isn't the boy that believes.

APPEARANCE

Neville is a nice looking bloke. His face is a bit shaggier these days, but he doesn't always feels he has time for shaving. His face is rather unremarkable, all curves and skin, sparing the slight rise of his nostrils to hint of a piggy nose and his large clear blue eyes. His blonde hair (formerly brown, but changed after an unfortunate incident with a potion gone arwy during Auror work) is usually parted smartly and he wears it a bit longer to cover what he's scared people might think is a large forehead.
The young man stands at 5 feet and 7 inches, not tall, but honest enough as heights go. The pudge he started out with in First year is melting, and he has stayed in the thin side since his final days at Hogwarts. Often his friends upon seeing him wish to feed him because of this. Gran's constantly after him to eat more. He still looks smashing in suits or robes, though more than anything prefers very comfortable worn in clothing that look worn enough to have belonged to his father.

HISTORY

FAMILY HISTORY
Alice was a sweet girl from a fine family. She represented her House, Gryffindor just beautifully. Frank ended his years at the school on a high note, having survived them similarly to Alice. The pair were fast friends and rivals, having a healthy competition in classes and staying in as many together as they could. It was no surprise when Alice was appointed Head Girl and Frank was the Quidditch captain. The sport was the only point at which they diverged. Again, it was no surprise when the pair became a couple and married not long out of school. They shared paths were more than anyone needed to guess their shared fates. Then came Neville, their sweet little bundle of joy. They raised him happily just down the way from Frank's parents.
Not long after the attack on the Potters and Voldemort's supposed demise, the family was attacked. Neville was an infant and was placed in a hidden place, but he could still hear everything. The couple was careful, but the caution was dropped out of a sense of safety. Frank was captured on the job and put under Imperius Curse to return home. He and Alice still had their secret tactics to know if something was wrong, a coin in each other's pockets they'd deposit on the counter when they entered. Frank went straight into the house and Alice knew she had to hide her son. The boy was hidden in a heavily enchanted chest in full comfort where he could hear everything. It was only moments after Frank entered that the Death Eaters followed him and tortured the pair to insanity, hoping to find some knowledge about their missing evil master. Alice had sent an alert to the Order and they sent a team to assist. They arrived too late, but they saved little Neville from discovery. The Death Eaters made a run for it and were picked up by Aurors not long after. The night was a terrible one, but the Longbottom family came together and took Neville upon themselves, making sure he had a proper upbring and knew how much his parents loved him.
Neville had a strange childhood thought he spoiled endlessly after his parents were taken from him. His remaining relatives were all quite old and didn't know how to properly play with children after a certain point. Gran raised him well and did her best to keep him safe from less sane relatives looking to test his magical abilities. His great-uncle Algie tried several times to get him to show magical ability, to the point where much of the family was set upon the child being a Squib. After a nearly deadly experience in the water, he was dropped "accidentally" from an upstairs window and bounced down to the garden and then the street. There was rejoicing in the Longbottom family, the boy that could be a Squib was a wizard as sure as the rest of them! This was found out none too soon either, the eight year old was only a few short years from his Hogwarts letter. He was placed proudly in Gryffindor, just like his parents.
During school, his Gran was sure to send him whatever he may have forgotten and letters of encouragement along with howlers of disapproval. She pushed him to study during his summer breaks, where he longed for the companionship of his friends. The area wasn't wizard heavy, so much of his time was spent either with family or Muggles. He had as much luck with them as with anyone, but that never stopped him from trying. During his first summer home from Hogwarts, he watched his old grandfather pass on and came back to Hogwarts that fall staring in horror at the thestrals leading the formerly horseless carriages. The Longbottom family was spared mostly during the second attacks from Voldemort, this time only losing the already lost Alice and Frank. Neville took it in stride.

PERSONAL HISTORY
Neville was always a sort of outcast in his year. The other boys seemed to pair off so easily that he wasn't quite sure what to do. He bounced back and forth between them and made good enough friendships for his first year. Going through the years, he resolved himself and tried his hardest, both in school and in his social life. Though rarely the top of his class, he showed great promise in Herbology and started to become more confident in himself with others. His love life rarely panned out as he was the sweet boy with a crush on mostly girls that wouldn't give him the time of day or had made the mistake of doing so too often. Well, some were nicer about it than others, much more graceful in declining, but the pain was still there. He thought he had a chance with Ginny Weasley until she started dating everyone but him. Perhaps he was just a ticket to the Yule Ball, he'd rather not know and just retain the friendship and fond memories. None of it really got him down, though, and he always kept on a pleasant demeanor toward his friends. The only problems in his life came from Slytherin, including their Head of House Professor Snape. As the years went, Neville tried to act braver, inspired by Harry, Ginny, and his other new found friends from Dumbledore's Army in Fifth year. The gathering made him flourish and improve dramatically. The Battle at the Department of Mysteries was a brilliant stepping stone for him as he could confront the woman that destroyed his parents' minds, Bellatix Lestrange. After the trouble of OWLS that was just what the boy needed for his confidence.
During Sixth year Neville of course did not return to Potions, and sadly not Transfigurations either to Gran's dismay. Due to his OWLS results, Neville was placed in Herbology, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Charms. He was terribly disappointed that Harry did not reactive Dumbledore's Army and wished that it could return because Snape teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts wasn't something he knew how to handle. Slughorn invited him to join the Slug Club, but after failing the first test which poor Nevile didn't realise was a test he was not invited back. Neville's Seventh year was likely the worst, dealing with terror, humiliation, and abuse, but he not only pulled through, he also stepped up and pulled others through, always believing that Harry would come back to help them all. His hopes were not ignored, though in the end he was too involved with the final match against Voldemort for his own liking. The entire night was a blur of magic and blood, Neville will not recall it if you ask him to. He returned to the school replacing Hogwarts to sit his NEWTS the following year, being a mellow and timid boy.

After a good final few months at school, Neville entered into the Ministry, the Auror office specifically. He hadn't always wanted to be an Auror, but considering the work he and other young people did for the right side, the side obviously in power now, and how they didn't mind over looking his lack of Potions NEWTS, he wanted to do it. He wanted to make his parents proud. Neville stayed in the department as best he could though, through the start of the Muggles finding everything out. His concern over all the events sent his already lousy scores spiraling downward. Leaving the department, he heading to Hawkshead to start a business with the money that he could now use with his parents gone.
